to really connect with people (and work with how people work), is to work from the inside out: getting the why aligned will bring the how and what into more meaningful focus for others. And it's probably not how you make your widget (the "how"), even though you take great pride in the material and process to get your widget they way it is.īut. What makes you get out of bed? It's certainly not to make a widget (the "what"), even though your widget is particularly awesome. Why is your anchor, your system of belief. The why stands above and dictates direction downstream to actions and results. The why aligns you to your customers and relationships, at an emotional level.

The why is the bigger picture: bigger than your product or how you deliver your product. People don't buy (or buy into) the what people buy the why. The "why" in this case drives the how to get to the what. But those who seem to "get it" will follow you because they align with why you do something - they connect with the emotion behind the how, the emotion behind the what. People might follow or buy what you're doing because of what you do and maybe because of a what and how you do something.
